What
is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a
traditional form of Oriental medicine that originated more than 5,000 years
ago. It is the oldest system of medicine known to contemporary man.
There have probably been
more people treated by acupuncture than with any other formalized system of
medicine.
"Classical"
acupuncture is a clinical form of treatment that has evolved over several thousand
years of experimentation.
This method is used to
encourage natural healing; reduce and relieve pain and improve functioning of
the affected areas of the body.
Many diseases that cannot
be cured by western medicine can often be treated successfully by
acupuncture.

How Does
Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture deals with the
human body in terms of energy rather than matter. A basic
life energy (vital energy) called Chi is present in every living
creature and it circulates along specific pathways in the body called Meridians.
As long as energy flows freely
through these pathways, health is maintained. When the flow of energy is
blocked for any reason, this energetic system is disrupted and illness
results.
Acupuncture involves the
insertion of very fine sterilized disposable needles into specific
points on the body.
By stimulating these
specific points along the energy pathways, the blocked energy is released and
health is restored.

How is Acupuncture
used Today?
Acupuncture is very
effective in treating a variety of painful disorders; both acute and chronic.
It stimulates the body into
producing its own pain relieving chemicals called endorphins.
These chemicals attach to
opiate receptor sites, found throughout the nervous system, resulting in relief
of pain.
The improved energy and
biochemical balance produced by acupuncture stimulates the body's natural
healing abilities, reducing inflammation, and promoting physical and
emotional well being.
Modern medicine often
includes side effects and may require surgery. Acupuncture can generally cure
the same medical conditions more effectively with natural remedies.
